It's a beautiful day

Sunday was one of the greatest sports days of my life, and I didn't see a single play of either of the games that thrilled me.

First was the Texans, who finally won consecutive games and evened up their record to 2-2. The fact that they did it decidedly, 30-17, made it that much sweeter.

But that was nothing compared to what the Astros did. Coming into the weekend tied with the Giants for the wild card, they won all three games, and clinched it with a 5-3 victory on Sunday. To say that I was ecstatic would be an understatement. From the highest of high hopes at the beginning of the season to the incredible disappointment of mid-season to the tempered optimism of August and September that I could finally let go into all-out joy on Sunday, there's never been an Astros season that's been as much of a rollercoaster ride as this one.

Unfortunately, the 'stros first postseason opponent is a familar one: the Braves, who have made quick work of the good guys 3 out of the last four times they've made it to the postseason. So my joy could be short-lived. But I just wanted to record it officially here before a single out of the Astros postseason, before any disappointment makes me feel otherwise: I couldn't be happier with my sports fan life right now, and I love being an Astros fan.

well, if the astros do lose to the Braves, at least you can take solace in knowing the Braves will eventually lose. We were in SE Tennessee this weekend and picked up the Sunday Atlanta paper, and they had this article about "Generation W" - no, it wasn't about a generation of Bush supporters (thank God), but about the generation of kids who have grown up only knowing the Braves as winners - kind of annoying actually, but I was glad the paper took the space to remind readers they also sucked for a REALLY long time before then. Not sure what the point of telling you this is, except it's the only baseball thing I think I've paid attention to all season.

Shut up! Don't jinx it!

I know, I know...I've seen people all over the place saying that they think the Astros will at least win against the Braves, if not the whole thing, and any time someone says something like that, I get so excited I feel sick. But I can't think about it. I've heard these things before, and I know not to count on them.

Keep in mind that the NL Wild Card typically wins the world series as of late (Marlins, D-Backs).

Rest assured though, even if the Astros don't pull it off, at least they will never, ever lose the NFC championship three times in a row.
