A deadly new strain of Pac Man Fever
Let's say you're looking ahead at a quiet weekend. And let's say that you get the idea in your head that it'd be fun to buy a video game, since it's been years since you've really sat down and played one of those dumb adventure games that were obviously made in Japan. Like, you haven't really played one since the Mario Brother 3 and Legend of Zelda days. And let's say you start to look at the brand new, fancy games that cost $50 each, figuring that those would be the most fun way to kill a few hours on a grey and dreary Saturday afternoon.
Readers, follow my lead and ignore the new games with all their improved graphics and gameplay and inflated prices and just head toward the "classics" section of the store. You'll find exactly the kind of game you wanted for about $20 and, predictably, you'll spend about 3 relatively entertaining hours on it, realize why it is that it's been so long since you've bought an adventure video game, and be really glad that you put the $50 game back its place.

Reid, thanks for bringing up fond childhood memories...Although i didn't have the cool atari like my neighbors did. My dad bought us the Texas Instruments home computer and we used to play MUNCHMAN until our hands were numb. In fact, my dad broke 3 of the joysticks before TOYS R US refused to replace them anymore. god bless the 80s.
we have the coolest arcade game at my restaurant. It has Pac Man, Mrs. Pac Man, Galaga, Galaxian, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, and Frogger. All on one machine. I play it whenever I can.
Also, Midway released an "arcade classics" thing for Playstation2, which I bought. It has Pac Man, Galaga, Pole Position, Pole Position II, Mrs Pac Man. It's fun, but there's just something about those games that's more fun when you're playing it on an arcade machine.
Another thing about modern games is that they're too expensive to play. I mean, some of those driving games are alright, but 75 cents to play for a maximum of three minutes? Come on! We can rock a Galaga machine for at least 15 minutes for only 25 cents.
I will say this though. Madden 2005 is a lot more fun than techmo bowl '85.
Oh. I nearly forgot to mention what may be the deal breaker.
That playstation2 game also has Dig Dug.
