Heaven can wait
The weekend's high has worn off a little bit and now there's something of a giddiness hangover. These things happen, I guess. Beautiful weather's powers only go so far, and it unfortunately can't stop the horrible, surging forces of work loads, taxes, and the human heart.
Speaking of daylight being blocked out by necessary but unfortunate forces, I noticed this weekend that they're finally adding on the escalator-protecting roof over the Dupont South metro exit. While I understand that the elements beat the living tar out of the escalators, and that it'll be nice to not get our eyes poked out at the top by the opening umbrellas of every escalator rider when it's raining, it's still a selfish shame. Riding up that huge escalator, seeing only sky at the top made you feel like you were riding up the escalator to heaven, and it always seemed really wonderful. The end of an era. This can now be tucked away in the collection of pointless stories that we can tell to the young people when we're seniors.
