Help make dreams of superstardom come true

God knows that James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem doesn't ask much of you. He just wants you to buy his new album, and he wants you to do it this week.

You should want this album as soon as possible mostly because it's brilliant. There's very, very few other artists who are as great at creating fun music that's also so ripe for analysis all the way to its core. The movement of the sounds has no equal.

But Mr. Murphy (show some respect, please) is doing a little experiment. He wants everyone who bought his last album to buy this album, but do it this week so that it debuts on the charts at #1. He's not making any pretenses that he's not doing it so that he has a number one album. But in spite of it's self-serving motive, it's still a pretty interesting experiment.

The album is still here on the 3voor12 site (scroll down) if you want to listen to it before you buy it anyway.

And who's coming with me on May 13 to see them at the 9:30?

It's definitely a day to go broke at the record store: LCD, Ted Leo and Andrew Bird (which will likely get lots of spin time at home). I got the Ted Leo in the mail last night (had forgotten I pre-ordered it ages ago) and I'm midway through my first listen. It's much as I suspected it would be: another Ted Leo record. Not that there's anything wrong with that...I just wonder how many more of these do I need? Then again, I'll probably let it live in the car for awhile and end up loving it. We'll see. I really *want* to love the LCD but from what I heard I merely like it. It sounds like the kind of record I need to play loud though. (It also sounds like it will be phenomenal to hear live, much like the last one which really came alive in person.) So James Murphy will get my bag of nickels today most likely.

hey reid,
i like your blog. you should add a subscribable button, so you can see who your readers are, and it's easier for them to follow it. check it out: the dc blog project. if you would like, i'll set up an account for you.

Another new release that's worth of your nickels is Panda Bear's Person Pitch. It's probably deserving of whatever criticism comes its way (too Brian Wilson, self-consciously "experimental"), but damn is it ever pretty. There's a couple songs in the jukebox.

Oh, and Matthew: thanks, but I think me and the users will stick with the RSS for now.

Why would you want to kill James Murphy?

i don't want to kill anyone, except the bear who gets in the way of me getting the new LCD Soundsystem record.

Don't forget the new Modest Mouse, which not all of us uh pre-downloaded. ;)

I freakin' heard clips of the new LCD on freakin' NPR's Fresh Air today! It was a podcast from late last week. I even thought to myself, why hasn't Reid mentioned this yet? I'm not sure how I feel about Fresh Air featuring this new album, except thank god Terry Gross didn't do the piece b/c that would have put me over the edge of my third-life crisis, sending me straight to the bottle.

Anyway, the album sounds awesome and I will download it muy pronto.

Paul, that scrambled my brain. Thanks.

Jen, I think you'll really like it. It's blippy, and I seem to recall you liking blippy once upon a time.

I'm not sure whether I'm embarrassed or proud to admit that not only did I write about this album before, but it was last December. "Leakage" is my new favorite word.

I also wasn't sure whether to feel embarrassed or proud when I explained to the Olsson's clerk what LCD S.'s sound was. Did a pretty damn good job, too.

I described them this evening to my spouse this way: imagine a rock band playing dance music...It also works the other way around too. FWIW, JM sounds like a dead ringer for Mark Robinson in "Someone Great". Can I get a what-what?

Blippy indeed. Love it. I might actually like it better than the first one. I need to compare.

I might whip up an extra special blog entry just for North American Scum. I can't thank JM enough for giving a higher profile finger to Europe than I could ever give.

What's the single in the US?

The first single is "North American Scum" here, too. I love it. I can't never get enough of the part where he's talking about the Euro music magazines and he just goes, "We don't have those." Never fails to crack me up.

This song reminds of a time on The Daily Show when Ed Helms was interviewing a Canadian who was offended by Americans pretending they're Canadian when traveling abroad, and this guy was talking about American's tendency to violence.

Canadian: Well, what about your national anthem? "And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air"?
Ed Helms: Yeah! It kicks ass!
Canadian: Well, maybe that's why you have the reputation that you do around the world.
Ed Helms: Yeah, for kicking ass!

Awesome awesomeness. Love Daily Show.

Stupid Canadians, though. That song is about a war where they fought on the side of the British. Ask any Canadian and they'll tell you that one of their proudest moments is being the only agressor to take out the White House, even though it was really the British army. Anyway, the bombs in that song are British. heh
