Annoying mistake in a saying #1

In a new and likely very short-lived feature, I'll be pointing out where people use the wrong word in a common saying. Grammar and spelling mistakes are one thing...that's just ignorance, and I'm a firm believer that ignorance is blitzed (uh, I mean, bliss), but trying to use a figure of speech or saying and getting it wrong is just plain...wrong.

Entry #1, which hurts in more ways than one:

"In that faithful 8th inning, Oswalt was unable to get his curveball under control and so he went to his fastball more and more."

It's "fateful", dude! FATEFUL!!! There's nothing "faithful" about it! It doesn't make any sense!

Thank you, and goodnight.
